Navajo Nation pumpkins made trip to Chester

An 18-wheeler packed full of pumpkins and gourds of different shapes, sizes, and colors recently arrived at Trinity United Methodist Church. Volunteers of all ages unloaded the produce onto the church’s front lawn at 6600 Greenyard Road. The church has partnered with Pumpkin Patch, pumpkinusa.com, each of the last 19 years to supply a variety of pumpkins and gourds. The New Mexican pumpkin farm employs more than 500 Native Americans on the Navajo reservation, including some from the Pueblo, Zuni and Hopi tribes. “They are expected to harvest nearly two million pumpkins in six weeks,” pumpkin patch organizer John Morris…

Michelle Seay Knight, 51, was born Dec. 23, 1966. A Chesterfield resident, she went to be with the Lord on Sept. 5, 2018. Knight was preceded in death by her parents, Emmet and Leona Seay, and her adopted daughter, Tasha Jones. She is survived by her fiance, Robbie Jimerson; daughters Erica Cowan (Chad), Stacy Culley and Kayla Fitz; grandkids Emily, Liam and Abagail; sisters Sandra Hayes, Sherry Glover, Susie Haga and Betsy Peregoy; and lots of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who are family.

Nathalia Douthit Betzold Church, 93, died on Sept. 13, 2018. She was born in Ardmore, Ala., resided in Philadelphia, Pa., Richmond, Va., Brentwood, Tenn., Huntsville, Ala., and Cumming, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Betzold Jr. and Clifford Church; parents, Bessie and Howard Douthit; five sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her daughters, Betsy Betzold Holmes and Brenna Betzold Cottongim (Paul), and granddaughters, Nathalia Holmes, Jacklyn Cottongim and Samantha Cottongim. A memorial service was held at Cornerstone Christian Church in Cumming, Ga., on Sept. 22, 2018.

County considering bus route along Jefferson Davis Hwy

Adding bus service on a 7-mile stretch of Jefferson Davis Highway is being considered by Chesterfield County officials. County transportation director Jesse Smith spoke about the idea at last week’s board of supervisors meeting. Detailing what he called a “Route 1 Corridor Transit Study,” Smith said staff considered six options, but he highlighted two options for supervisors at the Sept. 26 meeting.
