Man, woman charged following officer-involved shooting

A man and a woman were charged with multiple offenses following an officer-involved shooting on May 31. At about 11 p.m., police were conducting a foot patrol at the Suburban Motel, 2401 W. Hundred Road. When police entered the motel, they saw a man and a woman. When the man and woman saw officers, the woman quickly left the area. Officers help with annual Special Olympics fundraiser

CHESTERFIELD – Chesterfield police once again helped carry the torch for the Special Olympics. Participants raised funds in order to run in the race from Chester Police Station to the Eanes-Pittman Public Safety Training Center near Mimms Drive. The run began Friday, June 8, at 9 a.m. and ended around 11 a.m. It included stops at local sponsors Suntrust and Wawa. The Law Enforcement Torch Run began 36 years ago in Wichita. Three Chesterfield County educators recently received the prestigious Golden Apple Award, and five area students were honored with scholarships from the Kappa Foundation of Petersburg Inc. An idea that started at Meadowbrook High School six years ago is now being used at L.C. Bird High. Matt Bland, teacher of the Success program that works with at-risk ninth-graders, needed someone to help him with the Bridging the Gap computer program, and he recruited Bill Stehle, a retired Dominion Virginia Power Co. employee. “I’m a great facilitator, but I didn’t know anything about technology,” Bland said. Chester teacher going to South Korea for geography conference

Chester resident Anne Canipe is headed to South Korea this month. Canipe, a teacher at Cosby High School, was invited to participate in a week-long geography education conference and field study in the northeast Asian country. The group with which Canipe is traveling is made up of 14 teachers from throughout the United States. Each teaches Advanced Placement Human Geography, which transfers as college credit to many colleges and universities.
