MATOACA 38 PETERSBURG 22 In their last game of the season, the Matoaca Warriors hosted the Petersburg Crimson Wave. Thanks to Kyle Williams and the defense, Matoaca started off hot-putting up two touchdowns giving them an early lead of 14-0. The Wave quickly responded on assuming possession, going 70 yards on one play and cutting the lead to 6. Matoaca’s offense stepped back on the field and got two more touchdowns before Petersburg would score. The Warriors found themselves ahead 28-16. After halftime, Matoaca would allow a touchdown before scoring 10 more points to close out a 38-22 win over…

Dogpound hands

Hello, and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. Cold weather is starting to creep up on us, and it is time to prepare for what is coming down the pike. Inside, I just needed to fire up the propane fireplaces. The one downstairs started right up…but the one upstairs…

M y wife and I just returned from an anniversary trip to Georgia. Our first stop, which was supposed to be our longest stay, was in Tybee Island, Ga. We left Chester immediately following church on Sunday, arriving at our motel shortly after 9 p.m. It was dark, but there were some things that concerned me even though I could not see everything. We checked in and went to our room. Room number 16 to be exact. The access to it was through an exterior wooden stairwell. On the first landing were two chairs with ash trays that were full…

Crossing Harrowgate Road after parking at Harrowgate Elementary School, that will be torn down as part of the East-West Freeway, those interested in finding out more information than what they were given at four community meetings held by the county, gathered in the sun Saturday on the lawn of Brad Wall. His house, like Harrowgate Elementary could be taken for the proposed freeway.          Wall and other residents are not sure exactly how it will affect them. “It’s in my backyard,” said Laurel Rothenberger. “Have they [the board members of the Chesterfield Economic Development Authority] bothered to take the…

Restaurant Review

0

I have offered a few fire station recipes, but I have never done a restaurant review in my column. There are many good restaurants across this land, and I especially like to go to the places that all the locals go, wherever I am. Today was a different experience from the moment that we drove into the parking lot. I am talking about Mission Barbecue, located at Broad and Glenside. The parking lot was adorned with the flying U.S. flag. There was also something that I have not seen in any other parking lot, and that was a “Veterans Only”…
