Another L.C. Bird basketball player gets college offer
0Brycen Blaine is a guard for L.C. Bird boys basketball. Moreso, Blaine is yet another Skyhawk that seemed destined to play college basketball. This past week, he was offered by Livingstone College. “The sky’s the limit for Bryce,” said L.C. Bird coach Troy Manns. “He’s a fun young man to be around because of his competitive nature. He works hard and should have a really good season this year.” Blaine was a force for L.C. Bird all season long in what was a balanced attack of youthful players. With just one senior on the roster in Tyler Henderson, Blaine was…

Did we learn anything?
0As some may still be dealing with the flooding that occurred over the weekend of Aug. 15, I would ask, did we learn anything? Anytime that 5 to 10 inches of rain falls in a relatively short period of time, there will be flash and/or long-term flooding. It is not often that we experience this heavy amount of rain, but it has happened, meaning that we must always be prepared for it. Prior to this weekend, the last big rain event was during Tropical Storm Gastone, which stalled over Central Virginia. We saw some of the same effects on that…

0Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. If my calendar is correct, sometimes it is, we are almost ready to celebrate Labor Day; however, unfortunately, at this time, there will not be a lot of labor to celebrate. We are coming back from COVID 19 and it will take time and we will have to show some patience. So anyway, what else is going on? Well, I can add a new critter to my list…I have a mommy possum running around by the apple trees. I am guessing she is going after the apples that have…

Along with three other passionate young men (Vincent Kuzminski, Trevor Freeland, and Kenneth Swanson), he welcomed attendees who’d seen a Facebook post. It read in part: “As defined in Virginia Code 44-1, all able-bodied residents of the Commonwealth who are at least 16 years of age” may openly attend the muster for the 1st RVA Volunteer Militia. The post read that the…
Chesterfield navigating strict guidelines for spending CARES funds
0County informing citizens in preparation for Aug. 26 public hearing In preparation for the Aug. 26 Board of Supervisors public hearing about the county’s use of federal CARES Act funding, Chesterfield is informing citizens about how the money may be spent in accordance with guidelines set by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. The CARES Act established the Coronavirus Relief Fund to assist states and communities in overcoming challenges directly related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The federal dollars come with restrictions for how they may be spent. The public hearing will assist county leaders in further developing plans to allocate…
Cox considering run for governor
0Chase, Morrissey respond to him joining race On Aug. 3, state Del. Kirk Cox (R-Colonial Heights) announced that he was considering a run for governor. In making the announcement on Twitter, Cox criticized what he called a lack of leadership from Gov. Ralph Northam on “coronavirus testing, the parole board illegally and secretly releasing violent criminals early, [and] the mismanagement of how to best send our kids back to school this fall.” Cox said he will make a decision following the Nov. 3 general election. If he joins the race, Cox would be the second Republican candidate who represents Chesterfield…
