The hot car alert
0As I was thinking about reminding my readers about the dangers of leaving a child or pet in a hot car, I read about an 8-month old died in a hot car. People in Chesapeake do not read my articles, so I can only impact the ones who do. My heart breaks over a death of this nature. It was completely and unequivocally preventable. There is no excuse for leaving a child or pet in a non-running vehicle ever. Temperatures have been soaring, making the temperature in a non-running vehicle high enough to kill a person or a pet. There…
Incidents
0Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. It seems there is never a dull moment around here. If it were dull, then these articles would be very boring. At least, I pray, they keep you awake long enough to finish the article. It is very difficult to get newsprint off your face. Trust me! LOL. Anyway, I fell into the bathtub the other day. Yes, “into,” is correct. My master bathroom is pretty large; it has a double sink, linen closet, a huge shower, and a large bathtub located right behind the double sinks. I was…
Chester Clergy make statement on race
0A MESSAGE FROM CHESTER CLERGY: We, “the Chester Clergy,” as servants of Jesus Christ and His Church, join with our community and world in support of racial equality for which Jesus lived out, taught and required of those who follow Him. As the Bible declares that all people are created in the image of God and loved by Him equally, we lend our voices to collaborate with the voices of men and women from all ethnic groups, genders, faiths, and beliefs that racism is a deadly disease in our community that must be eradicated. We are committed to seek out…
Supervisors question school superintendent
0Haley asks for audit for alleged bullying of teachers The Chesterfield Board of Supervisors had plenty of questions for school superintendent Merv Daugherty on July 22 after the school board voted 4-1 for a virtual reopening of schools on Sept. 8 and 9. Daugherty noted that the county’s health officer, Alexander Samuel, projected that a spike in coronavirus cases will occur in September. Daugherty said he didn’t want to reopen schools and then have to close them and go to 100-percent virtual learning. During his presentation to the school board on July 20, deputy superintendent Thomas Taylor said some $15…
Teachers, parents split on re-opening
0Chesterfield votes to go with virtual school opening By a 4-1 vote on July 20, the Chesterfield County Public Schools board decided school instruction will be virtual for the start of the school year on Sept. 8 and 9. The vote could be considered a win for the Chesterfield Education Association, which lobbied for the move. Parents of students, however, came up short as a survey the district conducted showed that 82 percent preferred at least some instruction in a face-to-face setting. Deputy superintendent Thomas Taylor briefed the school board prior to the vote, noting the survey got 13,006 responses…
