Chester Clergy make statement on race

A MESSAGE FROM CHESTER CLERGY: We, “the Chester Clergy,” as servants of Jesus Christ and His Church, join with our community and world in support of racial equality for which Jesus lived out, taught and required of those who follow Him.  As the Bible declares that all people are created in the image of God and loved by Him equally, we lend our voices to collaborate with the voices of men and women from all ethnic groups, genders, faiths, and beliefs that racism is a deadly disease in our community that must be eradicated. We are committed to seek out and implement change that will represent the intent of our Creator, for humankind to “love your neighbor.” Our prayer is:

Creator of color, Lord of variety, forgive our attempts to make your church fit a bland oneness. Differences frighten us, so we instinctively downplay them, which only reveals our ignorance of the Gospel and you. Thank you, Triune God, for showing in yourself something so refreshingly different, a unity that is not uniformity but a refreshing diversity of God in three persons. Amen.

In this time of polarization, pain, and confusion, we implore our churches and community to remember the words of Jesus, to serve one another and remember the call to love our enemies and bless those who curse you even as we unapologetically and urgently call for reform, accountability, and justice. Following the call of Jesus who proclaimed He came to set the oppressed free, we declare that black lives matter! and now is the time to do the hard work of justice for all people in our Commonwealth and country!
