Matoaca’s Community Day event held last month was the vision of one person who wanted to bring churches together to celebrate God’s love and have a totally free event that would lead people to Christ without feeling pressured. “Our goal was if one person gets saved, then the whole thing was worth it,” said Louise Vaughan, event coordinator and member of Matoaca Baptist Church. Bonnie Agnell traveled with the Chesterfield Twinning Association to Gravesend, Kent, England the week of March 19-25 to participate in the commemoration events to acknowledge the 400th anniversary of the death of Pocahontas. Gravesend is where Pocahantas is buried. There were multiple commemoration events over several days, including a procession through the streets of Gravesend to the church. The theme of the commemoration highlighted how after 400 years Pocahontas is still bringing the people of America and England together.
