The Village of Ettrick’s historic and iconic gem saved from demolition four years ago is getting an exterior makeover. HistoriCorps, the nationally recognized leader in mobilizing citizens to save and protect places that matter, currently has its team on-site leading volunteers and students with a six-week field school to serve as a demonstration project while preserving historic Summerseat, which Virginia State University owns and which concerned citizens of Ettrick and members of the Chesterfield Historical Society, and eventually, the university, saved. Actress Kimilee Bryant will revive her Broadway role of Christine in a new musical production of “Phantom of the Opera” – based on the gothic novel by Gaston Leroux – for a one-night-only performance at the historic Byrd Theatre to benefit a children’s theater group based in Chester. Chester Outreach Church of the Nazarene invites the community to a concert featuring Avery Road, a Christian music from the Richmond area made up of Tim Wade and Jason Burton. Their music is a hybrid of Christian pop/country. Members include Jason Burton, lead vocals; Tim Wade, lead vocals, harmony vocals, bass, piano, and guitar; and Dakota Owen, drums. The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother will hold registration for holiday assistance from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 through Friday, Sept. 23 at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds Exhibition Building located at Courthouse and Krause roads. Registration is open to families in need residing in Chesterfield County or Colonial Heights. Families with children 18 or younger may register for toys, children’s clothing, and food gift cards.
