National Guard breaks ground at DSCR

By A.A. “Cotton” Puryear The Virginia National Guard will broke ground on its new state headquarters facility on Aug. 16 at Defense Supply Center Richmond in North Chesterfield. The 102,000 square foot facility will be built on a 13.6-acre site in the northern section of DSCR, cost approximately $30 million and construction should be completed by February 2018. The Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers program needs your help to solve a pickpocket and credit card fraud case. On Thursday, Aug. 11, at about 2:30 p.m., a woman was shopping at Stein Mart on Commonwealth Center Parkway. An unknown woman began to ask her questions about clothing. During the conversation, the unknown woman leaned against the victim, but the victim did not realize she was being pickpocketed. In my years as a paramedic/firefighter, I responded to my fair share of heroin overdoses. The amount of the drug taken and the time of our arrival after the overdose had everything to do with a good outcome versus a bad one. Though it was a problem in my days of riding an engine, ladder, or ambulance, heroin overdoses have become pandemic, in our day. We live in a society where people have cocooned themselves in their homes, oblivious to everything happening around them. My wife read me a story from Huntington, W.
