Summer Learning Activities

Chesterfield County Public Library will offer a unique summer learning program with dozens of prizes to encourage students to learn while having fun. The 10-week program is based on the popular game Minecraft. Go into any Chesterfield Library and get your first gold ticket to start the adventure. While it is important to maintain pool water at proper levels, it is equally important that pool owners and mangers understand the chemicals that they are using. HistoriCorps to preserve Ettrick’s historic Summerseat

HistoriCorps, a nationally recognized historic preservation organization based in Colorado, starts work this summer on a new project of local significance. Historic Summerseat, located in the Village of Ettrick and owned by Virginia State University (VSU), will undergo exterior preservation using a cadre of volunteers and students over a six-week period. This field school will serve as a demonstration project for HistoriCorps and creates the opportunity for the organization to establish a local preservation program to serve other historic structures in the region. James D. Worsley Named Parks and Recreation Director

Chesterfield County recently named Dr. James D. Worsley as new director of the Chesterfield County parks and recreation department. Worsley is filling the position of longtime director Michael S. Golden, who retired April 1. Worsley will begin Aug. 1. Currently the parks and recreation director for Columbus, Ga., – he held that a position starting in 2011 –Worsley has a doctorate in leadership studies from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, as well as master’s and bachelor’s degrees in recreation management and parks, recreation and tourism, both from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
