0The Virginia Senate this week has decided to move the public’s business farther from the public. The Virginia Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Virginia Press Association, and the Virginia Coalition for Open Government are disappointed by Senate Majority Leader Thomas K. Norment’s action to refuse to allow journalists onto the Senate floor to cover the General Assembly proceedings, as reported by The Richmond Times-Dispatch, The Washington Post and others. Project for dog park is barking to get started
0An effort to build a dog park in Chester started last summer. The project, spearheaded by the Chester Community Association (CCA), will be a facility where dog owners can take their favorite canine for exercise and safe play with other dogs. The CCA has worked through several steps including developing a relationship with the Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Department, getting initial approval from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC) and contributing the first $5,000 to the effort. “This new dog park in Chester will be an excellent addition and asset to our community,” said Sean Eichert, vice president…
Three Kings share gifts with 2,000 children
0Latin music filled the air with festivity, children giggled and smiled in a long line that snaked around the room at L.C. Bird High School. They excitedly waited for the three kings to arrive at the “El Juguetazo” or “Three Kings Day” event last Saturday. The volunteers were smiling too, as they busily readied the toys donated by businesses and caring individuals to be handed out. Her Majesty the Shepherd House
0Once located on a knoll where the Chester Walgreen’s now stands, the Shepherd House, once the queen of Chester’s houses, was possibly the largest home of its time period in Chester. Built by T.S. Shepherd, circa 1900-10, the house remained in the hands of the Shepherd family – although in later years it had been divided into apartments – until the early 1960s when it was razed to make way for the Chester Post Office. In 2002 the post office was torn down and its operations were moved to its current location.
Police Arrest Robbery Suspects
0Police have arrested two suspects in relation to a robbery that occurred at the Circle K at 11800 Ivey Mill Rd. at about 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30. Police said a man, who was armed with a handgun, entered the business and demanded money, cigarettes and lottery tickets. After receiving the items, the suspect fled. Businesses highlighted during County’s Investiture
0Belcher’s Trophies and Swift Creek Mill Theatre were among five businesses that were recognized during Chesterfield County’s Investiture Ceremony last month. The Rooted in Business program also recognized Crab Louie’s Seafood Tavern, Metro Richmond Zoo and The Boathouse. 0To the Editor: I agree that there is entirely too much negativity, hatred and anger in our country, but the majority of it is coming from the extreme Trumpet movement that I will assume is the Republican Party. I have never heard the threatening, screaming, lunatic behavior of the Trump supporters and the Cruz supporters. I didn’t have a problem with Republican ideology until the Bush era.
