0“Off the Grid,” a solar power initiative was awarded on Thursday, Oct. 1 to Chesterfield Career & Technical Center @ Courthouse (CCTC). Dominion Virginia Power presented an Educational Partnership grant for the electricity class’ proposed Green Energy Shack, which is an existing structure in the courtyard of the school. The structure will be removed from its traditional electrical source, and the students will then replace the former power source with a self-sustaining solar power system that can run a small refrigerator, stereo, computer, lights and television. Gov. McAuliffe Reads to Ecoff Elementary Pre-K Class
0Governor Terry McAuliffe visited Ecoff Elementary School and their pre-Kindergarten classroom last week. The new pre-K program was made possible through new Federal dollars and the Virginia Preschool Initiative to serve at-risk youth. McAuliffe believes every child in Virginia should have access to a pre-K education and has made this a priority initiative of his administration. His interaction during his visit with the children cemented his commitment to education and Virginia’s youth and his efforts to bring Federal dollars to Virginia school districts. Medicaid Mythbuster: Source and Quality of Care
1A constant complaint about Medicaid is that fewer healthcare providers take patients on public insurance programs, and the resulting quality of care suffers. The facts, however, tell a different story. According to the Commonwealth Fund Biennial Health Insurance Survey nearly all Medicaid (95%) and private coverage patients (94%) have a regular source of health care. The quality of care (rated excellent or very good) is higher for Medicaid patients (55%) than for those with private insurance (53%).
