Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office Dons Blue Uniforms
0Deputies with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office can now be spotted County-wide in new dark-blue uniforms. The Sheriff’s Office recently made the switch from the traditional tan-and-brown uniforms to dark-blue ones featuring a light blue stripe. Sheriff Karl Leonard sought to develop a new uniform that would enable the Sheriff’s Office to stand out from among other agencies in the region and the state, while enhancing a sense of identity, professionalism and pride among the deputies. Library system recognized for “Created Equal” programming
0The Chesterfield County Public Library (CCPL) was recognized for winning a Virginia Association of Counties (VACo)Achievement Award for its “Created Equal: Engaging the Community through Conversation” program. In 2014, the library system participated in the grant-funded Created Equal program, which was designed to encourage communities to join in dialogue about the meanings of freedom and equality. The library worked with the school system, local media and local university professors to offer several events and screened three documentaries: “The Abolitionists,” “Freedom Riders” and “The Loving Story.” Participants also watched film clips highlighting historical events and took part in group discussions. Southland Band starts ChesterFest celebration on Sept. 24
0The Chester Community Association’s (CCA) Second Thursdays has been completed for the year, but due to an overwhelming turnout, the Southland Band will return to play a special pre-ChesterFest show on Thursday, Sept. 24 on the Village Green, 11801 Centre St. in Chester. “We have had a very successful season so far,” said CCA President Elliott Fausz. “Howard Corey [CCA member] has worked hard to bring a variety of music to the Village.” Southland Band has played at several venues throughout the region and has been a staple at the Chesterfield County Fair. Gospel on the Green
0The members of Chester United Methodist Church want to invite everyone in the community to join them for Gospel on the Green on Sunday, September 20. There will be three food trucks available from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.on the lawn of the Chester Village Green. Featured vendors will include: Boka Taco Cart, Jem’s Caribbean Cuisine, and Smok N Pigz Barbecue. They will have free hot dogs for children, and free bottled water and popcorn for everyone (as long as supplies last). The children are sure to have a blast in our bouncy castles! 0The Pocahontas Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society is hosting several field trips in September. The outings are free and open to the public, but there is a limit on the number who can attend. Anyone with an interest in the native landscape is welcome, from novice to expert.
