The church community in the 17th century

Since we have been isolated the past few weeks, social interaction has been almost non-existent. Skype and other programs have been used for church services, giving a sense of community to those attending from afar. Can you imagine what living as a Christian in Colonial times must have like if you didn’t attend? No excuses. The people in Chesterfield at that time were still loyal to the Church of England. There were rumblings of a new church further up the Appomattox, but the settlers at Bermuda Hundred still attended the church at Bristol Parish, and those further up the James…

With the executive orders from our governor restricting gatherings to 10 and under, and the church’s desire to be a responsible community partner, most churches have gone to an online format. That being said, some churches became the target of thieves stealing catalytic converters off of church vans. The church that I pastor became one of those victims, Tuesday, April 7. My wife and I had to go up to the church to get some meat out of the freezer for our curbside community dinner. I had not started the Ford van in a while, so I told my wife…

What are some benefits for a senior having a pet? “Pets provide companionship and emotional support to seniors. Owning a pet is beneficial physically, as…

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. I hope you had a nice, safe, and blessed Easter despite all of the distractions that have been thrown at us lately. I must admit I have washed my hands so much that I am not sure I have any fingerprints left. Actually, I don’t have much these days; years ago, I went down to the police station to get my fingerprints done for my weapons license application. They were using this electronic fingerprint apparatus, and it took forever to get a half-decent print. I thought he was going…

Teachers adapting to new classroom norms

The 2019-20 school year has been brought to an abrupt halt due to COVID-19. Gov. Northam initially ordered schools closed for a minimum of two weeks, then eventually announced they would be closed for the rest of the academic year. Teachers have had to switch their traditional lesson plans to different methods, such as online lessons, take home packets and virtual meetings. Rachel Watson, an algebra teacher at Elizabeth Davis Middle, said the professional learning community in algebra created a calendar to help students keep math in their minds over the next few weeks. Watson had already been using Canvas…
