The Christmas season is quickly approaching, and the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother Committee is hard at work preparing for the upcoming holiday. The charity’s mission is that no local child is without food, clothes, toys and books, and that no elder forgotten during the holidays. The group’s 12th annual live silent auction will be held the evening of Saturday, Nov. 16. The fundraiser is sponsored by local businesses, so proceeds from ticket sales and bidding items and cash sponsorships can go directly to helping children and elders in need. The auction is a festive event with delicious heavy hors d’oeuvres,…

MorrisseyRoss State Senate District 16 doesn’t feature conventional candidates. Disbarred attorney Joe Morrissey, 62, and his former employee, Waylin Ross, are squaring off Nov. 5 in a race to replace state Sen. Rosalyn Dance, whom Morrissey dispatched in the Democratic Party primary on June 11. Ross, 29, filed signatures to run as an independent at the proverbial “last minute” –June 11 – to give anti-Morrissey voters a choice in the general election. Ross – who said he wants to reorganize the defunct Readjuster Party – and Morrissey participated in a VPM forum Oct. 11 in Petersburg. Not shying away from…

Q &A: How will you balance development and “smart growth” with community needs?

Shajuan Mason, Matoaca (D) I would balance development by having more data surrounding the needs of the community and how the proposed development will address that need. More importantly, the feedback from the citizens would be considered throughout the project. It is also important to look at the development that has already been approved but hasn’t manifested. This way, we are utilizing a more proactive approach versus…

MilesDavenport Stacey Davenport Age: 42 Status: Married with two children Why I should be elected? I am the only candidate in this race who supports keeping School Resource Officers in our schools to keep our children and teachers safe.
