A wedding venue was given permission to keep operating last week. The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a conditional use permit for the Little Wedding Garden. Cecelia LePage, a licensed Baptist minister, has been performing wedding ceremonies in her backyard since January 2017. She applied for a permit after a neighbor made a noise complaint in March 2018, a county staffer said. “It’s my ministry,” LePage told the supervisors on Nov. 14. “I’m here to help these women. Negotiations between workers at the DuPont Spruance plant and the company have resulted in approval of two new contracts. DuPont spokeswoman Deborah S. McNeil said that the Ampthill Rayon Workers ratified the contracts in late August and in September. McNeil said the contracts “will significantly improve the long-term competitiveness and performance of the Spruance site.” The old contracts expired Sept. 1. The contracts cover the production and maintenance unit and the clerical, technical and operations unit, which had been in effect since Sept. 1, 2012 and Sept. 1, 2013, respectively. Boyd Homes recently announced the $79.7 million sale of Rivermont Crossing, a 457-unit luxury multi-family community located in Chesterfield County, just south of Meadowville Technology Park, a complex that has attracted companies such as Amazon, Northrop Grumman and Capital One. The sale marks the largest multi-family transaction in southeast Virginia, a press release states. The Richmond Parade of Homes is the premier scattered site home showcase. The self-guided tour, begins Oct. 6, and it will run all four weekends of the month: Oct. 6-7, 13-14, 20-21 and 27-28. For at least 50 years there has been a dental practice at 11701 Chester Road. Drs. Walter Kilbourn and Lawrence Matthews Sr. shared space for their practices at a new office built next to Chester Recreation Center. After their retirement, Walter’s son Mike followed in his footsteps and continued the Kilbourne dental practice. Concerns about wage cuts and layoffs are on the minds of some workers at the DuPont Spruance plant. A letter from the Ampthill Rayon Workers Inc. said the plant site near Jefferson Davis Highway “is experiencing a level of anxiety and uncertainty that has never been here before now … The plant is like a powder keg ready to blow.” The letter said that many government contracts may be in jeopardy and mentioned possible wage cuts of 30-50 percent along with lay-offs. After years without a movie theater, one is planned for Chester next year.
