Monsoons postpone park plantings

Monsoons and sidewalk construction delayed the yearly landscaping of Chester Park, at the corner of West Hundred and Chester roads.

Brad Peebles, who planted the ornamental plants for the Chester Community Association (CCA) yearly project, said it was just too wet to plant until recently.

At one time, the corner was taken care of by the Chesterfield Parks and Recreation department that also does landscape maintenance of schools and parks. The CCA took charge of the corner about three years ago.

The CCA has been stepping up its area aesthetics program just as it has its entertainment program on Third Thursdays each month and ChesterFest at the end of the summer (Sept. 26). Another CCA project is placing Christmas wreaths along West Hundred Road through Chester, now hanging over 56 wreaths during the holidays.

In additions to many other projects that have been completed over the last 13 years, the group is now working with Chesterfield County to build at dog park at Ecoff Park.
