The Henricus Foundation announced recently that it has been awarded a $23,000 grant from The Dominion Foundation to continue the funding of the Dominion-James River Indian Educator/Interpreter position at Henricus Historical Park.

The Dominion Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Dominion Resources, the parent company of Dominion Virginia Power.

“Henricus Historical Park remains committed to highlighting the importance of the Virginia Indian culture through its re-created site of the village of Arrohateck. The Powhatan tribe dominated eastern Virginia when the English settled here over 400 years ago. Our unparalleled youth programs are designed to educate on history, heritage and culture of both the Virginia Indians and of the newly arrived English settlers.” Executive Director Charlie Grant stated. “Our educators help develop the minds of 30,000 children every year and we cannot do that without the continued support from organizations like the Dominion Foundation.”

Henricus Historical Park is located on 32 acres along the historic James River and is only 20 minutes from Richmond. The living history museum is located at 251 Henricus Park Rd., Chester. Contact 748-1611 with any questions. Henricus Historical Park is a proud participant in the Blue Star Museum Program. Visit www.Henricus.org to learn more.
