FEBRUARY 1-29 A New Mosaic: African-American Art from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts – This exhibition features high-quality photographic reproductions of works by African- American artists spanning the past 200 years. Meadowdale Library, 4301 Meadowdale Blvd., North Chesterfield.

FEBRUARY 6 Hidden History: African-American Cemeteries in Central Virginia – Learn about African-American cemeteries and stories of African-American genealogy, segregation and attitudes towards religion and death.

FEBRUARY 8 Rosenwald Schools – In the early 20th century, the Rosenwald Schools were built specifically for the educational needs of African-American students. Learn about their history and impact, and preservation efforts. 7-8:30 p.m., Central Library, 9501 Lori Road, Chesterfield

FEBRUARY 11 All We Do is Step, Stroll and Hop – What is a Black Greek-Letter Organization? African-American Collegiate Greek organizations are steeped in a legacy of brotherhood and sisterhood, community service and academic excellence. Learn about their purpose, mission and history.

FEBRUARY 13 Heroes and Hard Times: American History through Song and Story – Embark on a journey through stories and songs that spans more than three centuries of American history, and includes slavery, the Underground Railroad, the Civil War, the birth of blues music and the Civil Rights Movement.

FEBRUARY 17 An Exploration of African-American Art from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts – Karen Getty will discuss the collection from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts that commemorates African-American life and history, as well as art that ranges in different periods, styles and subject matter. 7 p.m. until 8 p.m., Meadowdale Library, 4301 Meadowdale Blvd., North Chesterfield

“Our Black History Month celebration is made possible by the many corporate and individual sponsors who support us,” said Black History Month Committee Chair Mary Martin Selby. “They are the reason that we can offer thesefree educational and entertainment events.In addition to the events, we are very proud that this is the 19th year in which the county is sponsoring the Leadership for the 21st Century Scholarships,one of the premier scholarship opportunitiesfor eligible Chesterfield County Public Schools students.”

The scholarships are designed to recognize and reward the achievements and contributions of Chesterfield County high school seniors. Six Chesterfield County seniors who plan to attend a Virginia college or university will receive $2,000 scholarships. Since 1997, more than 118 scholarships and a total of $133,000 have been awarded. This year’s recipients will be recognized at the annual Black History Month Business Breakfast on Friday, Feb. 19. The keynote speaker will be Aaron Montgomery, co-founder and chief operating officer at CarLotz, Inc.
