Library welcomes Trumpet Player Victor Haskins

Chesterfield County Public Library will host trumpet player, composer/arranger and educator Victor Haskins and the Victor Haskins’ Skein. The group will perform on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Central Library, 9501 Lori Rd.

The group will share music from different eras to demonstrate compositions and stylistic developments from various musicians throughout the history of jazz. They will also discuss some of the basic concepts behind jazz and other music rooted in African-American culture.

The performance is part of a series of special events planned during Black History Month. This is the second year that Haskins and his band members have participated in the county’s popularcelebration.

Haskins has recorded with a number of artists and has performed at the Richmond Jazz Festival, Richmond 2nd Street Festival, the Elkhart Jazz Festival and the Apex Jazz Festival.
