Residents will have an opportunity this Saturday to get up close to all forms of art with Chester Library’s signature event, A Taste of Art. Plans are in place to celebrate art by providing exhibits, showcases, workshops and crafts for children. The line-up is extensive and just a preview of what is to come with the completion and opening of the Chesterfield Center for the Arts in 2017.

The event opens at 10 a.m. with a Snow Queen sing-a-long. Activities continue until 3 p.m. Registration for the free workshops will be made upon arrival.

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts will be one of the first workshops offered beginning at 10:30 a.m. with an activity geared toward students and careers in art. Chris Blackmon will have a drawing workshop at 12 p.m. and at 1:30 p.m. Simply Ballroom will give a dance demonstration.

Artist showcases include Jessica St. Thomas art demonstration at 11:30 a.m.; Chesterfield Children’s Theatre, 11:45 a.m.; Zack Artis guitar demonstration, 1 p.m.; Dr. Bargdill’s “Night Dreams” talk, 1:15 p.m.; Commonwealth Photography, 2:30 p.m.; Bellwood Church Choir, 2:40 p.m. and Stavna Ballet, 2:50 p.m.

Exhibits include: Art Adventures, Bellwood Baptist Church Choir, Chesterfield Children’s Theatre, Chesterfield Center for the Arts, Commonwealth Photography, Fire at Will Photography, Jessica St. Thomas, Richard Bargdill, Stavna Ballet and Zack Artis.

Art Adventures owner Amy Barr is excited about the event and will be doing art activities and face painting with her exhibit. “Any opportunity to bring the community together with spring on the rise and to see people out and seeing anything creative is a thrill for me,” she said. “I am loving to have art adventures close to home and I have fully supported the art center and it is exciting to see it come to fruition.”

A mini art bar, food trucks as well as a gift basket raffle from the Friends of the Chester Library will be part of the experience.

A Taste of Art will be held Saturday, March 5 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Chester Library located at 11800 Centre St.
