The winners of the 33rd annual Outstanding Youth Awards were honored recently at a ceremony at the Chesterfield Career and Technical Center @ Hull. The awards recognize young people and adults who have had a positive impact on their schools, communities or in the lives of other individuals. Youths receive awards in the categories of courage, compassion and service.

Forty youths and nine adults were nominated this year. The youth nominees represented eight high schools and three middle schools. Youth winners for each category are as follows:

Service: Thomas Reilly, Robious Middle School

Courage: Kaylea Armstrong, Monacan High School

Compassion: Ryan Mathes, Manchester High School

Leadership: Taylor Rice, Monocan High School

Overall: Jonas Kee, L.C. Bird High School

The adult winner, Brandon Bonner, mentors the younger generation at his barber shop. He gives back to young people who are struggling by sharing his story.
