Another Knight made their college decision this past week too, but this one was from the hardwood. Forward Elena Flowers announced that she would be playing basketball and attending Mount Olive College this fall.
“Of all the colleges I visited and that were interested in me, I felt that Mount Olive was the best fit,” Flowers said. “I loved the coaches and the players.”
Flowers was a force in the post under third year coach Leon Gholson, who led Thomas Dale back to regionals for the first time in five seasons.
“If not for a minor injury, she would have been All-Conference and possibly All-Region,” explained Gholson. “She came on strong during the playoffs, increasing her rebounding and scoring.”
Recently, Matoaca standout Jaelyn Tweedy committed to Mount Olive, but played the past two years at Georgian Court University. Notably, another former Warrior in Tamara Nesmith had an oustanding career at Mount Olive, playing professionally with Bellinzona of Switzerland.
