Dogpound and comics

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. A few weeks ago I was able to attend my first ComicCon Convention. No, I am not too old for that stuff, even though most of the attendees were of the younger generation.

Just so you know, I still collect a few comic books and I probably have at least 5,000 comic books in my basement. (By the way. Do you know anyone that wants to buy a nice collection?)

Anyway, I know the younger generation takes a lot of heat about their attitudes toward those older than them, but in this particular event, they were some the nicest and most polite people I have met at any show. They never hesitated to let you take a picture of them or with them. It is a big thing at these conventions to get dressed up as one of your favorite, comic book, television, cartoon, or movie hero, and many spend a lot of money, time, and energy in making their costumes as close to the originals as possible.

I actually got my picture taken with my superhero: Spider Man!

One big part of the convention is the costume contest, where all ages from as little as 5 to as old as 60 compete for a trophy and some cash prizes. Every costume, no matter how good or thrown together at the last minute, received a loud and long applause of appreciation from the packed auditorium.

Everywhere we went to get information, advice, or directions was met by very helpful and friendly convention attendees. For example, we bought lunch at the convention and I told my date to be careful with the fiberboard tray since the drink made it very lopsided. However, despite my prior warning, she lifted the tray and the drink tipped over, spraying her, the counter, and floor with soda. What a mess! Fortunately, the couple with us also had their 5-year-old son with them, so they were well prepared to handle drink spills.

As we settled in to eat our lunch, a young man approached us with a soft drink in hand. He told us he was in the line behind us, witnessed the mess, and had bought her a replacement drink. How nice. Also as a side bar: not only was he a participant in the costume contest, he actually took the Best of the Show title.

QUOTE FOR THE WEEK
“Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.” Tenzin Gyatso 14th Dalai Lama

That is a wrap for today. As always be good, do good, play safe, and remember it cost you nothing to be kind to another person.
