1---book-coverFirefighters will be there, but there’s no fire. Police officers will be there but there’s no crime. What will be at the Boots vs. Badges charity softball game is compassion for a family that is suffering the loss of a loved one, and a little friendly rivalry between police and firefighters.

The Boots vs. Badges game will be held at Matoaca Park Field 1 on June 18 at 6 p.m.

There is no admission fee, but donations are being accepted to benefit the family of Virginia state trooper Chad Dermyer, who was gunned down and killed at a Richmond bus station on March 31. Dermyer leaves behind a wife and two children.

Making a special appearance will be author Michael Brigati, a retired fire captain, paramedic, and rescue diver from Chesterfield Fire and EMS.

Brigati will sell copies of his book “Fire Thieves.” He donates $1 from every book sale to the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation, and for every book purchase at the softball game he will also donate $3 to the fund for the slain trooper’s family.

The public is invited for this event that not only will serve a family’s needs, but promises to be fun and memorable.

Food will be available for purchase.
