Wildlife of the Dogpound

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound.  Well, not so wonderful at this point in time.  I finally decided to have my decade (plus) colonoscopy done Monday…so I’m sitting here on Sunday drinking this terrible tasting salt mixture.  They want me to drink a gallon of this in five hours.  I don’t drink that much water in two days, let alone in five hours!  Plus I am not allowed to eat for the next 24 hours…so that kind of puts the crimp in the weekend activities. Then to add insult to injury…when I signed up to for this I did not realize this was Father’s Day weekend!  Yea…I know…not smart…but it was too late to change things.  So we went out Saturday night to grab a bite…saw the new movie “Central Intelligence” (nice fun movie to go to), and then we went over to a small tavern where a friend of mine was playing a gig…he is a drummer.  Nothing major has happened of late…which I guess is a good thing.  I did pick up a rash of some kind.  Think it is something the farmers are using when they plant their fields, so the doctor put me on Prednisone.  Three tablets a day for three days…then two tablets for three days…then one tablet for three days.  I am not a bad pill taker but there are some pills you do not want to take without an immediate dose of water, and these are one of them.  The aftertaste is horrible and lingers if you are not quick with the liquids.  What else?  Not sure I ever mentioned my turtle population.  We had an explosion this year.  I normally get two to three turtles that come up from the lake every Spring, and before long I have a bunch of babies.  This year I had eight big turtles, only two are left now, but I have not seen any babies.  I can only tell if there are any when I see these little black spots sticking up out of the water.  There is still time I guess…but not hopeful.   I have also gained a friendly doe.  She has been walking around the house and pond almost daily and does not seem the least afraid.  I came home for lunch one day last week and there she was down in the pond cooling her feet.  I stopped and watched her for a minute or two until she decided she had enough water time, and came up the hill and crossed in front of the car, no more than 20 feet away…it was like I was invisible to her.  Another time I was riding my lawn mower…and you know how loud they are.  She was grazing on some grass on the driveway not more than 100 feet away and was not even the bit interested in the growling machine running around in the yard.  I think she is pregnant. The deer like to go hide in the woods down by the lake just below my house and have their little Bambies where they cannot be disturbed.  So between my turtles and my deer I am hoping to have…very soon… an extended family!

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
“At his best, man is the noblest of all animals; separated from law and justice he is the worst.”   – Aristotle

MISSING?
A bus driver accidentally left a passenger behind after they had stopped for lunch. He immediately turned around and went back to the restaurant to retrieve his passenger.  As she boarded, the driver profusely apologized to her. “I don’t blame you,” the woman told him, “but I’m mad at my husband for not informing you that I wasn’t on the bus.”
That is a wrap for today.  As always be good, do good, play safe and remember an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
