In basketball today, one of many things used to measure the success of a high school player is college offers. Now, Kylon Lewis added one to an already impressive load of honors.
This past week, he received his first scholarship offer from Division II Lemoyne-Owen College in Tennessee.
His improvement through his junior season, which led the Thomas Dale boys’ team to the 6A state quarterfinals just a year removed from the Knights just winning five games, was noted.
“As the season progressed, he became a more confident player, believing in himself and his abilities,” said coach Keyode Rogers. “As his confidence grew, his game improved, and even now he understands he has more work to do to reach his full potential.”
That confidence helped Lewis to be named to the VHSL 6A All-State second team, and it raised his team to 20 victories and a 6A regional championship, the team’s first since 2001.
Lewis is a quick 6-3 guard with a body that can still grow and develop. That alone could make him a Division I prospect in time, if his skills aren’t there already.
At this point in his recruitment, some area scouts label him as more of a raw, athletic talent who’s still learning the game of basketball. Regardless of anyone’s evaluation, Lewis is headed for a college court, in due time.
Of course, any rising senior would be hungry to get on the floor again after a near miss at a state championship, and Lewis is no different.
A video of him dunking a basketball on Twitter is adorned with the following tweet: “One more round left in me! Let’s work!”
Surely, more college interest will come Lewis’s way. Stay tuned.
