Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. As I have mentioned in several past articles, my neighbor has three large dogs that like to come over and visit now and then. One is a Great Pyrenees and the other two are Burmese Mountain dogs. The other day I noticed “Whitey,” the Great Pyrenees, and “Dude,” the youngest of the three (the names I gave to the dogs), were in the yard. They like to come over and lie in the cool grass that is shaded by the house from the hot Western setting sun. Normally, I go out and give them some treats, but it was late, and I was not in the mood of putting on my shoes and going outside in the heat. As I sat at my computer, I could hear one of them barking. Looking out my window I could see “Dude” barking at something out toward the lane, but I could not see what had drawn his attention. Since they are considered good guard dogs, I thought it was pretty cool that he thought my house was worth protecting. A bit later I heard him barking again. I looked out the window and caught a glimpse of him running around the corner of the house, and Whitey, noticing the commotion, followed closely behind. Hmmmm?! What is going on? I went to the other window in my study and I could see both dogs standing next to the area that is filled with rock and some hosta plants. The area is about three-feet-wide, protected by a plastic ground divider, separating the gravel and the yard. So here is the picture I am looking at. There are two big dogs,  probably both weighing in at 70-80 pounds each, standing at the edge of the flower bed, staring intently at something. I lowered the blind blades enough where I could see they had cornered a possum. The possum is not in a good position. He is out in the open, back against the house and no shrubbery within 10 feet to run too. So, I am thinking, oh my, here comes the blood and guts, and my poor hostas, directly between the two opposing parties, were going to get trampled to bits. However, after a minute or so of staredown, the dogs decided that there was nothing here to be concerned with and walked off leaving the possum to gather his wits and run for cover. Life is always interesting in the country, for sure!

THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK

My goal in life is to be as good of a person my dog already thinks I am. Dogpound Wisdom

SMILES

Two boys were struggling with a huge table in a doorway. They pushed and pulled and upped it and downed it until both were exhausted.
Between gasps for air, one managed to say, “We better give up… because we’ll never get this table into the house.” “Into the house?” screamed the other. “I thought we were moving it out of the house!”

A bar owner locked up his place at 2 a.m. and went home to sleep. He had been in bed only a few minutes when the phone rang. “What time do you open up in the morning?” he heard an obviously inebriated man inquire. The owner was so furious, he slammed down the receiver and went back to bed. A few minutes later there was another call and he heard the same voice ask the same question. “Listen,” the owner shouted, “there’s no sense in asking me what time I open because I wouldn’t let a person in your condition in.“ “I don’t want to get in,” the caller interjected. “I want to get out.”

Out of room! Be good and safe!
