“Our Black History Month celebration is made possible by the many corporate and individual sponsors who support us,” said Black History Month Committee Chair Mary Martin Selby. “They are the reason that we can offer thesefree educational and entertainment events.In addition to the events, we are very proud that this is the 19th year in which the county is sponsoring the Leadership for the 21st Century Scholarships,one of the premier scholarship opportunitiesfor eligible Chesterfield County Public Schools students.”
The scholarships are designed to recognize and reward the achievements and contributions of Chesterfield County high school seniors. Six Chesterfield County seniors who plan to attend a Virginia college or university will receive $2,000 scholarships. Since 1997, more than 118 scholarships and a total of $133,000 have been awarded. This year’s recipients will be recognized at the annual Black History Month Business Breakfast on Friday, Feb. 19. The keynote speaker will be Aaron Montgomery, co-founder and chief operating officer at CarLotz, Inc.
