Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. I went down to the basement yesterday and I was hit with a terrible smell. I mean it was bad. I did a quick search for the dead bodies, but the smell was so prevalent I could not zero in on a specific location for the smell. Not finding anything, I gave the basement a full barrage of Febreze and let it sit for a day. The next day was no better, so I opened up the basement patio doors and turned the furnace fan on to try and…

Hello and welcome back to the Dogpound surrounded by hurricanes.  Well, at least it feels that way.  Texas got slammed by Hurricane Harvey, and now Hurricane Irma is going to run all over Florida. I lived in Houston for almost three years…never saw a hurricane…there were storms of course but we had more issues with heat waves and freezing weather [yes…freezing…three days of below-freezing weather, and pipes were busting everywhere].  Houston is barely above sea level, and many of the freeways actually dip down to go under another road [some areas have like five layers of highways all crossing in…

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. It is hard to believe it is already August, and at times it is hard to believe what you find in my company’s break room. Note…most of the time it is “not” what their family refused to eat last night. LOL Many days the workers will bring in potluck to celebrate a birthday or just because it is a Friday….then others will just feel like making something and sharing it with everyone else. I went into the break room one morning to get my usual Diet Coke when I…

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. Well, the good news is that nothing broke this week…knocking on wood…so I am left to find another topic to write about. So let’s chat about finances. I got one of my credit card statements and they among of several that haave started showing your FICO score. Now in my mind the higher the score …the better your credit rating; the better customer you are….a better risk to pay your bills. This credit rating is used not only for house loans…but they are now used in determining your cost…

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound.  Hope you are well rested from the long holiday weekend and came back with all of your body parts still connected where they belong.  My den has one of those big double windows that is topped by a big arch window.  I had a very difficult time finding a window covering for the top until one day I stumbled across a rather simple covering….made out of thin paper and opens like a peacock fan tail.  I cut it to size…spread it out into a fan shape and sticky taped…

Hello and welcome back to the patriotic world of the Dogpound. In a few days we will be celebrating our Independence Day…or as we know it, the Fourth of July. On this date the Second Continental Congress approved our Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. The colonies had been pretty much left alone to grow and develop as they saw fit, but England finally decided that they should start paying for the common defense and contribute revenue to the homeland. Since the colonies were not represented in Parliament…they did not think this was fair…and the phrase,”No taxation without representation” came…

Hello, and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. My neighbors put up a big tent last weekend to celebrate the graduation of their oldest daughter from high school. I do not know if she plans on attending college or not, but it did kick start my brain cells on the thought…”What would I tell a graduating class of 2017?” What advice would I give them as they move from the safe haven of school into the real world…reality on steroids so to speak? Would I ever be asked to speak to a graduating class??..Probably not, but let’s…

Hello, and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. If my calendar is correct, Father’s Day is just around the corner, and for some of you this better be a wake-up call to get your “you-know-what” in gear…pronto! Now, we all know Father’s Day follows Mother’s Day, but I bet you did not know that Father’s Day almost did not happen. There was a strong movement after Mother’s Day was made official to change it to Parents’ Day in recognition of the role father’s played in the raising of a family. Mother’s Day was made an official national…

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. Hope you had a nice Memorial Day weekend…mine was going along pretty well till I got an e-mail from my master …on Memorial Day no less. He said,”Hey, I know it is a holiday but we still have a paper to put out.” Yikes! I have been working my tail off all weekend, and just as I sat down to rest for the day, I get this little love note. I must have done something very wicked in my past life…lol. Anyway, I did work my tail off doing…

Hello, and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. Doctor visits have certainly changed over time. When I was little, the doctor still made house calls, black bag and all. Then, we moved to a more centralized visit, going to his office, which was actually in the back of his house, and he would come in one of the exam rooms, sometimes with cigarette in hand [I know, I am old!] and check you out. Then, we moved on to sitting in the waiting room for 30 minutes. Then, another 30 minutes in the exam room, with the…
