Spinning a clever twist on a common phrase, the Old Dominion Postcard Club (ODPCC) introduces its unique “House of Postcards” exhibit at the Chester library. Throughout the month of July, library patrons can peruse the club’s colorful postcard displays. The exhibit’s title, evoking the classic house of cards, works on a literal and a figurative level. Chesterfield County residents are invited to spend an evening outdoors with neighbors and police on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., for National Night Out, an annual event held across the country to strengthen neighborhood and police-community partnerships, while heightening crime- and drug-prevention awareness. The Chesterfield County Police Department recently held a kickoff event for this year’s National Night Out, and is looking for neighborhoods to register their parties this August. Deltiology is the collection and study of picture postcards. Chester Library will be hosting the Old Dominion Postcard Club as they present a House of Postcards exhibit. The third annual “Get Your Butts to Broadway” Festival in downtown Hopewell is right around the corner. The Chesterfield County Public Library will offer a free summer meals program for children 18 years old and younger. The lunch program is scheduled June 20-July 27, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at three of the county’s libraries. The USDA; funded program involves a partnership with Childcare Resources, a national agency with local headquarters that provides food, resources and education. The program is open to all children, and no enrollment is necessary. This is the second year that Chesterfield County Public library has participated in the program.
