During a June 23 work session, Chesterfield County Public Schools board members heard about six options for reopening schools on Sept. 8 and 9. Residents exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms should register prior to attending As part of a statewide push to increase testing the Chesterfield Health Department is hosting several free COVID-19 testing events across the county this month. Appointments should be made with the Chesterfield Health Department at (804) 318-8207 before each event. Pastor Rocky Angone prays daily in Chester gazebo The gazebo situated in the heart of Chester on West Hundred Road has become familiar to many Chester residents as a symbol of the quaint village they call home. Mid-morning motorists driving through the Village might recently have become familiar with another sight: a T-shirt clad man kneeling down in the gazebo, two dogs waiting patiently on the bench behind him. The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia in partnership with the Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer Merit Badge Workshops for scouts during August. These workshops are offered by a merit badge counselor certified with the Heart of Virginia Council. Archaeology merit badge workshop will be held on Monday, Aug. 3 and August 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Historic Trinity Church, 10111 Iron Bridge Road.  These day-long workshops are for scouts ages 11-17 and will cover the archaeological process, site surveys and site excavations. The Shepherd’s Center of Chesterfield has a critical need for volunteer drivers over the age of 25 to transport seniors to essential medical, dental appointments, and grocery or food pantries. Areas in the greatest need of drivers include Chesterfield County, Colonial Heights, Chester, and Hopewell. Can you help by offering a few hours to provide a ride to a senior in our community? The June 24 meeting was the first one in months since the COVID-19 virus hit that allowed residents to speak in person during public comment. It started out as an average day on March 27, at the Virginia State Police EMS MedFlight I base at Chesterfield County Airport. Parks and Recreation will manage the Chesterfield County office effective Wed. The Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) will fall within Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation starting Wednesday, July 1.  Headquartered next to Central Library at 9501 Lori Road, the Chesterfield Cooperative Extension Office provides research-based educational programming in three key areas: agricultural and natural resources, 4-H youth development, and family and consumer resources.  Cooperative Extension staff can significantly expand services to the community by utilizing a large volunteer base to provide additional outreach.  These volunteers serve as Master Gardeners, 4-H camp and club leaders, and Master Food Volunteers to carry forth…

The James River Association (JRA) has officially opened registration for its 2020 season of “Connect with the James” programs. Open to the public, they provide a one-of-kind experience in getting on the water while learning about the history and natural resources of the James River and its tributaries.
