Chester march encouraged peaceful demonstration More than 400 people participated in a peaceful demonstration on Saturday, marching one mile, from the Chester Village gazebo to Thomas Dale High School. The march, led by 2020 Thomas Dale High School graduate Zuri Washington, was an effort to allow people to express their concerns about the recent deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. All three received national attention due to their tragic deaths. Floyd and Taylor by questionable arrest procedures by law enforcement in their home states of Minnesota and Kentucky, respectively. It looks as if Carvana may be a victim of the economic impact from COVID-19.  The used auto reseller recently announced that it was backing away from its plans for a 184-acre site on Woods Edge Road in southeast Chesterfield County.  In a June 3 email, company spokeswoman Amy O’Hara said: “After further examination of current business priorities, Carvana is no longer pursuing an auto inspection center and storage facility in Chesterfield. Journalist writes children’s book Cliff Davis’s imagination sometimes runs away with him. This time it landed in a book. Davis has penned “A Chookamook Came Over for Breakfast.” Davis is not new to writing, he is a seasoned journalist. He has been a staff writer for the Hopewell News, did articles and wrote a column for the Progress-Index and regularly contributed to Richmond Magazine. Chesterfield County had 32 deaths related to the coronavirus as of May 27. County supervisors heard that and more information from Chesterfield’s health district director, Dr. Alexander Samuel, during their May 27 meeting. Samuel noted that the county’s positivity testing rate for COVID-19 was at 17.5 percent, which was down from the peak of about 28 percent in mid-April. At the direction of the Board of Supervisors, Chesterfield County, in partnership with the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce, is launching “Back in Business” grants to support small businesses negatively affected by COVID-19. The $10,000 grants are designed to provide immediate relief to businesses to help them remain in business through the COVID-19 pandemic and prepare for reopening under the guidelines of Forward Virginia. The $5 million dollars, dedicated for the grant program, will come from the federal funding Chesterfield County received from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Local hair salon reopens under Phase I guidelines Studio B first opened its doors on April 18, 2017. Not quite three years later, salon owner and master stylist Bethany Yurachek found herself closing them, under orders by Gov. Five months after giving the project a denial recommendation, the Chesterfield County Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of Courthouse Landing on May 19.
