Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services at Defense Supply Center Richmond (Chesterfield), has approximately 1,000 wooden pallets available to the public free-of-charge.  Culling is allowed.  Businesses are also welcome. The pallets will be available for pickup between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Nov. 30-Dec. 4, 2015. The general public must access the installation through the North Gate located along Strathmore Road in North Chesterfield County.  All visitors must have a valid government issued identification card to access the installation.

The “Chesterfield Monthly,” a product of Local News LLC and Chesterfield Observer, produced its last issue this month. Editor Scott Bass wrote in the November/December issue that the journalism business is in trouble. “…we simply couldn’t bring in enough revenue to keep the magazine afloat. The Woman’s Club of Chester invites all youth, 12 through 14 years of age, to submit an original 250-word essay on the subject “What It Means To Me To Be An American Citizen.” The essay should include the feelings and beliefs of the writer. Chesterfield County Public Library will host writer D. Randall Blythe, more popularly known as the lead singer of the rock band Lamb of God. The lyricist will talk about his recently published memoir as part of the library’s author visit series. The memoir called “Dark Days,” documents Blythe’s recent experience in a nineteenth century prison in the Czech Republic after being arrested for manslaughter. He was incarcerated for over a month in a cell with individuals who spoke little English. The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia, (CHSV), in partnership with the Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation, presents an American Heritage merit badge workshop for Boy Scouts in December. The Boy Scout American Heritage Merit Badge Workshop will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Historic Trinity Church, 10111 Iron Bridge Rd., Chesterfield. Joy Wallace can frequently be seen at local fires. Just like any of the male firefighters, Wallace would suit up in the turnout gear (protective clothing) and don the self contained breathing apparatus, which would weigh around 60 pounds or more. She would risk her life while facing infernos to protect and rescue citizens and to save their property. She started out as a firefighter and through diligence, dedication and hard work has worked her way up through the ranks.
