Art of forgiveness

My wife and I went to a movie last night, at Regal Cinemas-Virginia Center Commons. I give all of the details because it was the only theater in our area that was showing “My Brother’s Crossing.” Some may say, Don’t you know that there is a pandemic, and you choose to go to a movie? Sadly, we walked into a movie theater that was practically empty. We had a front row parking space and no line to wait in. We had Auditorium 2 all to ourselves. You heard me, not another soul in the theater where we watched this movie.…

Bailey catches eyes of two colleges teams

Matoaca’s Devin Bailey has seen his recruitment heat up in recent times. In fact, this past week, he picked up two new offers, both from in-state schools. Virginia State and Christopher Newport are interested in the athlete’s services. “Devin can be a very good college football player,” said coach Jay Parker. “He plays a lot of positions for us, [he] is versatile and dependable, and [he] has good grades in the classroom as well.” Bailey’s versatility on the field has led him to line up at quarterback, wide receiver, and his primarily position, defensive back. These positions all require being…

Casey recognized by Rivaley Series site

L.C. Bird linebacker Jaden Casey is still awaiting his first scholarship offer, but it could be coming soon. Casey received a high academic honor from the Great American Rivalry Series as a scholar athlete. An award for academics comes as no surprise, as Casey has a 4.5 grade point average, something that college coaches will surely drool over. At 5-11and 225 pounds, he has the frame to play linebacker at the next level. He’s played that position well for Troy Taylor’s Skyhawks. The Great American Rivalry Series named L.C. Bird and Thomas Dale as one of the country’s best football…

No moving

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. As I mentioned in my past article, I was going to get carpet for my whole house: the master bedroom, living room, and both small bedrooms. The carpet store told me they would move the heavy furniture but all of the stuff in the cabinets, breakables, etc.,  I would have to move by myself. The only areas not impacted were the kitchen, dining room and the bathrooms, which became the storage area for dozens of boxes and baskets, with the overflow going into the garage. What a mess. then,…

Virtually learning?

There was no wearing of new outfits and carrying a backpack full of school supplies, no running to the bus stop, no tears from parents waving their sons and daughters off to their first day of school, and no face-to-face greetings to friends and teachers they hadn’t seen all summer. The 2020-21 school year is the year of the pandemic and like many school systems, Chesterfield County Public Schools opened with online classes. More than 58,000 students in 62 schools – 38 elementary schools, 12 middle schools, 11 high schools, and a technical center – signed on to their Chromebooks…

Morrissey reflects on reform bills moving through Assembly

State Sen. Joe Morrissey (D-Richmond) is pleased with how a special legislative session is going so far.  On Thursday, Sept. 10, Morrissey — who represents a portion of east Chesterfield — said he’s “very pleased with what we’ve been able to get done.”  He noted that the Senate — which is meeting at the Science Museum of Virginia at 2500 W. Broad St. — approved his sentencing reform bill, SB5007, by a vote of 22-18 on Thursday, with one Republican, Bill Stanley, voting with Democrats. The legislation will enable a judge to administer sentencing upon request of a convicted defendant. …
