0Experts in a wide variety of coins, stamps, and paper money will be on hand and willing to share their knowledge at John Tyler Community College in Chester on Saturday, March 19. The Central Virginia Coin Club (CVCC) will hold a coin, stamp and collectibles show. Parking and admission are both free. Howlett Line Civil War Driving tour
0The Chesterfield Department of Parks and Recreation in partnership with the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia will offer a driving tour of Civil War battle sites that played a major role in the 1864 Bermuda Hundred Campaign on Saturday, March 12 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. beginning at Henricus Historical Park. Learn about a larger ring of fortifications that made up a Confederate line of defenses known as the Howlett Line. Constructed in late May 1864, this defensive position would prevent Federal troops from launching further operations and keep the Army of the James entrenched on the peninsula. This…

0Creativity courses through Jess Hellerstein’s veins. Her love of art has been a constant in her life, which has been full of art-themed birthday parties, after-school art projects, and a myriad of classes that allowed her to explore mediums ranging from jewelry-making to ceramics and stained glass to pastels and graphic design. Although Hellerstein enjoyed expressing herself in a multitude of ways, she found herself particularly drawn to digital art. In 2014, the Chesterfield resident started taking classes at John Tyler Community College. In her classes, Hellerstein explores her “creative self” as she refines her skills and creates new works.…
“A Turn of the Century” at County Museum
0The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia (CHSV) will present a lecture at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 19 at the County Museum, 6813 Mimms Loop, in Chesterfield. Guest presenter is Lamar Banister, living history “edutainer.” Banister’s costumed program covers the period of history between 1875 and 1917 including the Gilded Age; a time of dramatic change from the final Native American conflict to major technological and industrial developments into the Age of Flight. Kindergarten registration day is April 14
0Throughout central Virginia, April 14 is the date to register children for kindergarten. Kindergarten is a full-day program offered in every Chesterfield County elementary school. A child must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30 to attend kindergarten. Every Chesterfield County elementary school will register incoming kindergartners 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. April 14, so parents should take their children to the elementary school they are zoned to attend. Wells Celebrates 100 Days
0Can you believe it is the 100th day of school already? On Feb. 24, kindergartners at Wells Elementary marked the day by wearing shirts that featured 100 items of some sort and working on hands-on STEM projects involving 100 items. STEM = science, technology, engineering and math.

Matoaca Show Choir earns high marks
0The Matoaca High School Show choirs under the direction of Brad Berkley competed in the Mid Atlantic Show Choir Spectacular hosted by Clover Hill High School Saturday February 20. The choirs both produced stellar performances and placed in their respective categories. The girls choir, Up Front, received first runner-up in the unisex division. The mixed choir, High Impact, received Grand Champion in their division in preliminary rounds and finished second runner-up in finals. The show choir band won best band in the unisex and mixed division.
