Parks & Rec has virtual content to bring home activities
0When the COVID-19 pandemic started to affect Chesterfield County, and services were forced to modify, the county’s Parks and Recreation Department wasted no time to pivot to virtual recreation programs. Since March 17, the Parks and Recreation Department has been producing virtual recreation programming for the public. It includes activities, tours, classes and videos all organized into different categories, such as family activities, history, nature, outdoor activities and fitness. New activities are posted daily, Monday-Friday. “Although our recreation centers, nature center, and satellite locations are closed, the department has adapted to the new environment,” said James Worsley, Chesterfield Parks and Recreation…

Jordan Carpenter gets nod for Lexus leadership scholar- athlete award
0By Walter Scott Jr. Every year, schools submit two athletes (one boy and one girl) who made an outstanding contribution to the school both through athletics and academics. Her work on and off the court was impressive this season and is now being recognized in other ways. She was honored on Fox Richmond on both Friday and Sunday. Athletically, Carpenter helped lead her team to an incredible regular season, with a record of…
Trinidad, Lewis add more offers
0By Walter Scott Jr. Although things may be speeding up a bit in the world due to COVID-19, two area athletes have continued to outrun the competition on the recruiting scene. One of those athletes is L.C. Bird’s Kris Trinidad, who has added five new offers: Navy, Bucknell, Air Force, Central Michigan, and Rhode Island. “On the field, Kris is an apex predator. He gets after it. Last year he was a five-technique defensive end [who] put his hand in the ground. He goes and gets the quarterback,” explained L.C. Bird football coach Troy Taylor. “He loves his teammates and…

0Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound, where we have started to live free again. Well, not completely, but we have taken the first baby steps to get small business back on track; I even was able to get my hair cut today. I have to admit I have gotten pretty good using the mustache trimmer to trim the back of my head,. using a mirror to boot! Just for your information, the barber was in a really good mood when she was cutting my hair. I am sure she was just as happy to be…
The Yellow House
0It’s one of the most peaceful times of the year in the little village of Chester, with spring in the air and more warm weather than cold. Usually, there are casual conversations on porches and in front of businesses in the center of the village. But not this year. It’s 1864, and we are at war, a civil war that is tearing the nation apart, and a fierce battle is raging outside of the village. As the Union forces tried to take more ground, troops battled around what the community called the Winfree house at the time. Years after the…
