Former L.C. Bird High point guard Madison Baum was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 5-10. Baum opened the season for Bridgewater College with 14 points, nine assists and five steals as the Eagles notched  92-82 victory over William Peace. The sophomore guard graduated from L.C. Bird in 2016. Although short in stature at 5 feet even, she wasn’t short on playmaking or leadership. Brooks earns Eagle Scout rank

Jameson Connor Brooks, 15, son of Kimberly Brooks Spiers of South Chesterfield, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on June 12. He is a member of Troop 2815 at Chester United Methodist Church. Brooks has been active in Boy Scouts since he was 8. He was awarded the Arrow of Light in March 2014 while he was with Troop 922 in Enon. Dog dies in Chester house fire

A dog perished in a house fire in the 4200 block of Laurel Oak Road on Nov. 20. A call came into emergency communications at 3:04 p.m., fire officials said. Crews arrived on scene to find heavy fire coming from the home. A vehicle in the driveway was scorched by the flames. “No one was home at the time,” said Lt. Jason Elmore of Chesterfield Fire and EMS. “Two adults were displaced and are being assisted by family members.” Firefighters from Centralia, Airport and Dutch Gap Chesterfield fire stations battled the blaze. Meadowdale Library celebrates 10 years in current building

Members of the Jesse J. Mayes Tri-Cities Chapter of the 555th Parachute Infantry Assoc., attended a commemoration of Ettrick’s Triple Nickel Bridge on Nov. 16. The 555th Parachute Infantry was the nation’s first all-black parachute infantry platoon, and was affectionately known as the ‘Triple Nickels.’
