Motorists should expect increased traffic in the area around the Amazon Fulfillment Center on Meadowville Technology Parkway beginning Monday, Nov. 20, through the holiday season. The traffic pattern will be similar to past years, and motorists should allow extra time to get through the area during shift changes. The business will begin ramping up staff Nov. 20, and traffic will increase as the workforce increases. Chesterfield County is working closely with Amazon to mitigate the impact on traffic. Crossing Harrowgate Road after parking at Harrowgate Elementary School, that will be torn down as part of the East-West Freeway, those interested in finding out more information than what they were given at four community meetings held by the county, gathered in the sun Saturday on the lawn of Brad Wall. His house, like Harrowgate Elementary could be taken for the proposed freeway. Wall and other residents are not sure exactly how it will affect them. “It’s in my backyard,” said Laurel Rothenberger. “Have they [the board members of the Chesterfield Economic Development Authority] bothered to take the…
What does that mean for our local roads? Harrowgate and Route 10 are already extremely congested in the evenings, and they want to potentially add thousands more to it?” Pentecost said. “If all of these people are going to actually move to the area, where are the plans for the additional homes and schools? Our schools are overcrowded as it is. I really don’t think Chester can handle the amount of people [or] cars that would be a result of such a massive complex.” All three BARD members plan on continuing their fight against the Matoaca Mega Site through social…
County priorities? Healthy living, well being, safety, security, thriving communities, environmental stewardship Comprehensive Plan what was called such in 1989, and the road was shown there as well. A bastion of suburban life in the 1970s, Chesterfield County began its climb in population just under 80,000 in 1970 to around 340,000 today. An unprecedented growth rate of 8.3 percent in building permits during the ’70s has yet to be surpassed in the 37 years since. Some of the neighborhoods built in the years Chesterfield was growing now need a little attention, and a new County department is being formed to address the issues of aging neighborhoods. It can be easy to identify some of the areas that need revitalization, such as the Jefferson Davis Highway, lower Hull Street…
Barney McLaughlin, has proposed a 16-unit townhome development that would be located at 4513 Lee Street and is currently owned by William “Bill” Graves. McLaughlin plans to build 17 units, which will be for sale. He says maintenance and landscaping will be part of a maintenance fee that homeowners would pay to keep their homes looking new and fresh into the future. It is always a concern that these types of units can be sold in the future and that the next owner may not pay attention to the unit as the original buyer did. McLaughlin said that it is…
During a recent Chester Lions Club meeting, Retired Army Maj. Gen. Merdith “Bo” Temple shared his insights into the life and accomplishments of George Washington. The information Temple shared focused on Washington as a farmer, an innovator, and someone concerned with building the nation through commerce and trade, information frequently left out of history books. Washington was primarily home-schooled and self-taught as a surveyor who inherited Mount Vernon, where initially tobacco was grown. In 1753, Washington joined the battles of the French and Indian War on the northwest frontier, where he acquired much of his military acumen. After the war,…
