A free basketball program that started in the mid-1950s is reaching out to the community for volunteers. The Chester Presbyterian Basketball Association has provided opportunities for boys and girls from ages eight to 15 an to participate in organized sporting events. Challenges these children face range from financial challenges to mental and physical challenges. Initially organized by the Colonial Heights Jaycees and later moved to the Chester Jaycees, the program continues by the Chester Presbyterian Church as an outreach ministry and is co-sponsored by Chesterfield County Parks & Recreation. This year’s parade theme for the Chester’s Kiwanis Christmas Parade is “Christmas Movies” including Dorothy Jaeckle, Bermuda District Supervisor as our Grand Marshal. Route 10 will be closed between the Chester YMCA and Harrowgate Road beginning at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, December 11. The parade will begin at 2 p.m. and Route. 10 will reopen after the parade, approximately 4 p.m. See floats, bands, dancers, and much more, including Santa himself. When choosing the fall musical for the current school year, the theater students at Thomas Dale High School’s Specialty Center for the Arts expressed their desire to see more diversity on stage. As a result, the drama instructors went with “The Wiz,” an urban reimagining of L. Bensley Park will honor all veterans and active military personnel Nov. 12 with a “Navy Day” theme ceremony. The two-hour ceremony will begin at 11 a.m., and its special guest speaker will be Navy Lt. Morgan Looney, a Richmond native.
