The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia (CHSV) in partnership with Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer four camps this summer. Diggin’ in History Beginner Archaeology Camp is designed for children ages eight through 12 who will learn how to search for clues from the past. Hands-on activities include site surveys, excavations and artifact repair. A field trip to the Prince George Heritage Museum is included. Residents will have an opportunity this Saturday to get up close to all forms of art with Chester Library’s signature event, A Taste of Art. Plans are in place to celebrate art by providing exhibits, showcases, workshops and crafts for children. The line-up is extensive and just a preview of what is to come with the completion and opening of the Chesterfield Center for the Arts in 2017. Chesterfield County’s Families First program will be collecting new packages of diapers and pull-ups in various sizes for program participants during the month of March. This program is designed to assist first time moms in forming strong and lasting relationships with their children and helping them explore and secure resources to maintain a positive home environment. The program provides prenatal care and family support services until children reach age five. Collections sites are at all Chesterfield County public libraries. The Chesterfield County Public Library will host its annual Chesterfield Comic Con on Saturday, March 19 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Meadowdale Library, 4301 Meadowdale Blvd, North Chesterfield. Experts in a wide variety of coins, stamps, and paper money will be on hand and willing to share their knowledge at John Tyler Community College in Chester on Saturday, March 19. The Central Virginia Coin Club (CVCC) will hold a coin, stamp and collectibles show. Parking and admission are both free.
