Over 150 guests officially welcomed Harrowgate Fire Station No. 21 to the community with a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday, April 26. During the reception, guests were able to tour the station. The station will serve over 8,000 residents, 18 percent of the county’s industrial sites and 10 percent of its storage facilities. With staff being on the job for the last 60 days, response time for the station calls have ranged from nine minutes and 24 seconds to seven minutes and six seconds. “We needed a fire station,” said local resident Jon Francoeur, who attended the event with…

Daniel Cheatham, a graduate of Thomas Dale High school and Longwood University, was commissioned as an officer in the Army National Guard at Fort Pickett on April 18. After serving in the Guard since 2006 as a pharmacy tech, Sgt. Cheatham applied and was accepted into the Accelerated OCS, SOC program. At the graduation ceremony, Cheatham was referred to as a “natural leader” by guest speaker SFC Michael E. Nolan. The three-year-old preschool class at Chester Presbyterian Church  was in full support of Red Nose Day on May 21. Wanda Gentry, grandmother of a preschooler said their noses were so little that they could not move without their big red noses falling off and rolling across the floor. Red Nose Day is a campaign dedicated to raising money for children and young people living in poverty by simply having fun and making people laugh. The Chesterfield Department of Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Chesterfield Historical Society, is offering a four-hour driving tour of the Civil War battle sites that played a major role in the 1864 Bermuda Hundred Campaign on Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning at Henricus Historical Park at 251 Henricus Park Rd. First Christian Church of Hopewell will host its Third Annual Madalon Lane Memorial Golf Tournament at River’s Bend Golf Club, located at 17000 Hogan’s Alley, on July 18, 2015.  The funds raised will assist in sending children to Craig Springs Summer Camp in southwest Virginia.
