The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors approved a series of agreements last month for the Chesterfield Center for the Arts (CCAF), which will allow both the final phase of the design and construction of the approximately 18,500-square-foot facility to begin. The project is being developed in conjunction with the aid of public supporters that are providing funds for both construction and operating costs. To the Meadowbrook Class of 1968; it feels like it was only yesterday when they all flipped their tassels and began their adult lives. The Chesterfield County Purchasing Department today announced a notice of award to SSC Service Solutions for custodial services during the 2015-16 school year. The notice was made after a six-person evaluation committee recommended that Chesterfield County Public Schools negotiate a contract with SSC Service Solutions. A contract with the national cleaning firm is expected to take effect at 41 Chesterfield County schools on July 1, is projected to save Chesterfield County Public Schools $3.6 million next year and includes the eight schools currently being served by GCA Services Group. For six students of Irish dance, spring 2015 will live in their minds for many years to come. “Irish dance is like what you see at Riverdance,” explained Andrea McCarney, co-owner of The Heart of Ireland School of Dance studio in Midlothian. She owns the three-year-old dance studio with partner Aleise Matheson. The step dance is notable for its fast leg and foot movements, while the body and arms are, for the most part, very still. The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia (CHSV), in partnership with Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer four camps this summer. Diggin’ in History for Beginners is designed for children ages eight to12 who will learn how to search for clues from the past. Hands-on activities include site surveys, excavations and artifact repair. A field trip to the Prince George Heritage Museum is included. Frosty’s Corner is a historical salute for many of the long-standing residents of Chesterfield County. County citizens continue to use this intersection (Iron Bridge Road and Cogbill Road) as a landmark for directions. The name “Frosty’s Corner” came from life-long resident Roy Dean “Frosty” Smith. He was born in 1906 and died at the age of 72. He was married to Helen Armstrong Smith, originally from North Carolina. Frosty and Helen had two daughters, Joyce Smith Quaiff and Shirley. Draft Bikeways and Trails Plan, which is proposed to be a new chapter of the Comprehensive Plan is moving forward. The plan, which will be part of the overall Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Master Plan made its way through a countywide public meeting process and was approved by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission (PRAC) at their April meeting.  Ten citizens spoke in favor of the plan, PRAC unanimously endorsed the plan. Recently, the Planning Commission held a work session and set their public hearing on the draft plan for Tuesday, June 16, at 6 p.m.  A public hearing is a…

Chester is home to Henricus Historical Park, which has been re-creating a 1611 Citie of Henricus, 1611-1622, the London Company’s second English settlement in the Virginia Colony over the last several years. Explore Chesterfield County’s diverse trails by registering for the Great Park Challenge (GPC). The GPC encourages individuals and families to visit five different county parks in order to answer questions about the parks. Registration will take place Saturday, June 6, at 8 a.m. at any one of the five parks. The five parks included in the GPC include: Radcliffe Conservation Area, Dodd Park at Point of Rocks, Dutch Gap Conservation Area, Rockwood Park and Robious Landing Park.
