New drive-through lanes approved for Chick-fil-A
0The Chester Chick-fil-A may soon be getting two new drive-through lanes after the Chesterfield Board of Supervisors approved a zoning amendment last week. The request for the business at 2900 West Hundred Road also includes a minor building addition. It involved an 11-foot exception to the 50-foot setback along West Hundred Road. The applicant believes this new design will improve traffic flow at the site, as vehicles back up and sometimes block access to the adjacent U.S. Post Office. A condition of approval requires the business to install landscaping to reduce the visibility of the parking area from Route 10.…
New building on the way at Village Green
0The last commercial lot in the Village Green mixed-use development is the site of a building under construction. Property manager Sean Eichert said the 12,000-square-foot, two-story building on the northeast corner of Chester Village Drive and Route 10 will house two existing businesses that plan to relocate within the Village Green: Deux Amis Med Spa and She Chester, a jewelry and gift shop. The building will also have six apartments, two 1-bedroom units and four 2-bedroom units. The building – which is located across Celebration Drive from Don Papa Grande Mexican restaurant – has a target opening date of July…
L.C. Bird robotics team reaps success at int’l competition
0L.C. Bird senior Sierra Gotshall prepares batteries for an international robotics competition. L.C. Bird High School’s robotics team won a divisional championship at an international competition in Detroit over the weekend, and ultimately placed fourth out of 408 teams at the FIRST, or For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, event. Coach Steven Wagner attributed the RoboHawks’ success to a strategy. “Their stellar performance resulted from the coach and drivers formulating a match strategy that was based on data collected from each prior match that characterized the other 67 teams’ performance and capabilities,” Wagner said, referring to the number…

Kitchen fires
0As I watch the news, read posts on social media and read the Daily Business Plan, fires caused by cooking-related issues continue to occur regularly. There is not a day that goes by that a fire department somewhere in this nation is responding to a kitchen fire. Since it happens every day, it’s a problem worth talking about. The large majority of all kitchen fires are preventable, but intentional steps must be taken to do so. We continue to classify these fires as accidental, which seems to lessen the blow. The stark reality is that your kitchen fire is your…
Garrett leads Knights to 10-1 start
0“A good catcher is the quarterback, the carburetor, the lead dog, the pulse taker, the traffic cop and sometimes a lot of unprintable things, but no team gets very far without one,” said Miller Huggins, Baseball Hall of Famer. Luckily for coach Chris Marshall and Thomas Dale High School, the Knights have a very talented backstop. Cole Garrett hit three home runs last week to help defeat Colonial Heights, defending state champions Prince George and tough Region 6 opponent Riverbend. The three wins bumped Thomas Dale’s record to 10-1 on the season. Garrett, a junior, is already committed to VMI,…
Former Knight making his way through pro ranks
0After making his debut in professional baseball last year, Nathan Eaton got word of a promotion after this year’s spring training. He started the year in the South Atlantic League with the Lexington Legends. The former Thomas Dale Knights standout was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 21st round of the June amateur draft. He did something most 21st round picks don’t do: he hit .354 in over 260 at-bats with 20 doubles, 12 triples and five home runs while driving in 53 runs and stealing 19 bases in just 66 games for the Idaho Falls Chukars, the…
