Antiques Evaluation Fundraiser on April 16

The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia will present their Eighth Annual “Antiques Evaluation” Fundraiser on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the new North Courthouse Road library, 325 Courthouse, N. Chesterfield. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Chesterfield Historical Society. Oral evaluations will be provided on a wide variety of items as well as on detailed photos of items. This column is quickly approaching its eight anniversary with the Village News. I know I cannot believe it either. When I first began writing this column, it focused on my then two- year-old son. The trials and tribulations of moving him out of our bedroom, and upstairs (not to mention my neurosis about him moving into his own room) was clearly documented in the pages of the VN. Confederate History Month celebrated

The Chester Station Camp No.1503, Sons of Confederate Veterans will celebrate Confederate History month in Virginia with a flag Ceremony on Saturday, April 9, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Confederate Monument on the historic 1917 Chesterfield Courthouse Green located at 10011 Iron Bridge Rd. Members and friends will place at the monument a miniature of the Second National flag inscribed with the name, rank and unit of their ancestor. The flags will be left in place for the duration of the month. Following the flag ceremony, a reception will be held at the Chesterfield Museum.

Classes meet once a week for six weeks on Tuesdays, April 5 through May 10, 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Participants are taught how to create and maintain healthy and beautiful landscapes by using native soils and the climate to minimize impacts on our local watersheds. The Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers program needs your help to solve a prescription fraud case. On Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, at approximately 10 p.m., two women approached the pharmacy counter of the Walgreens on Buford Road and said they were there to pick up a prescription for a family member. The pharmacist on duty explained that the prescription, which had been received the previous day, was found to be fraudulent and was not filled.
