If Chesterfield needs a new plan to increase revenue, the budget office should talk to Hopewell. The city had a way to boost their cash-in – a speed trap or speed traps. Since 2008, the City of Hopewell has been declared one of the most profitable speed traps. Interstate 295 from Chester to and from the Hopewell interchange, a two-mile stretch, known as the “Million-Dollar Mile,” last year, netted $1.8 million, according to CBS News, the National Motorist Association and AAA Mid-Atantic. The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors recognized its World War II veterans with a resolution calling for remembrance on Aug. 14, the 70th anniversary of the end of the war. Around 28 WWII veterans attended a dinner in their honor on July 22 during the dinner break of the Board of Supervisors meeting. During the dinner, the veterans swapped stories from their service in the war, while county employees and leaders served them dinner. Holly Lynn Love of Chesterfield, Va., is one of six winners of the Dominion Memorial Scholarship Program. Holly, daughter of Joe and Sally Love, will receive up to $5,000 for the 2015-2016 academic year. The scholarship is renewable for an additional three years. Now in its eighth year, the scholarship fund was established in memory of Matthew Gwaltney, Rachael Hill and Nicole White – students with close ties to Dominion who were killed in the April 16, 2007 shootings at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
