0Chester march encouraged peaceful demonstration More than 400 people participated in a peaceful demonstration on Saturday, marching one mile, from the Chester Village gazebo to Thomas Dale High School. The march, led by 2020 Thomas Dale High School graduate Zuri Washington, was an effort to allow people to express their concerns about the recent deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. Carvana pulls the plug on Woods Edge Road project
0It looks as if Carvana may be a victim of the economic impact from COVID-19. The used auto reseller recently announced that it was backing away from its plans for a 184-acre site on Woods Edge Road in southeast Chesterfield County. In a June 3 email, company spokeswoman Amy O’Hara said: “After further examination of current business priorities, Carvana is no longer pursuing an auto inspection center and storage facility in Chesterfield. Chesterfield “virtual meetings” are a censorship travesty
0To the Editor: Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors (BOS) and Planning Commission (PC) meetings are currently being held “virtually” and audio broadcast on the county TV channel and on-line, due to the Covid-19 emergency. In a normal “live” meeting, with the public physically present, we have the opportunity to speak on both scheduled and unscheduled matters for up to three minutes. With the current “virtual” format, there is no opportunity to comment during the meetings. 0To the Editor: My perspective comes from a background in mitigation of high level defense and security operations for the headquarters of the Department of Defense. Chester home consumed by fire
0A home was destroyed by fire at 10600 Hollyberry Drive on June 1. The flames were spotted by a helicopter flying over. The fire began around 3 a.m. Firefighters arrived at the scene to find the home fully involved with fire. Crews battled the blaze and declared it under control at 4:30 a.m. Lt. Jason Elmore of Chesterfield Fire and EMS said that the house was vacant and that the cause is under investigation.
