0The official snow total marked this storm as the 11th largest in Central Virginia history, but local totals put it in the top three for Chester, arguably. The storm started at 10 a.m. in Chester and lasted about 36 hours. It totaled between 15 to 18 inches of snow with about 15.5 inches falling at the Village News office at Route 10 and Ecoff Road. Local banker retires
0Local business woman and banker, Lee Taylor, has worked for 43 years in the banking business. Last Thursday was a testimony to her service and commitment in the community banking system when friends, customers and former bosses came together for a retirement party at Brock’s BBQ in Chester. She had no idea of the surprise while being escorted in by Paul Carnes and said it was the best she has ever had. “I have the best friends in the world,” she said. “I love them all.” Jim Brock organized the party. Old Man Winter dumps 21 inches on Chester in 1940
0The most snow recorded in Central Virginia fell 1940 between January 24-25. The blizzard dropped 21.6 inches of snow on the area, officially. Pictured above are two Chester residents attempting to dig out a car at A.L. Lindsey’s Service Station that stood at the corner of Rt. 10 and Chester Road. The snow is easily knee deep in the picture.

Village News New Year in Bahamas
0Jerry and Linda Jennings, of Chester, started the new year by going on their first cruise to the Bahamas with one of their sons, Jay Jennings, and two of their seven grandchildren, Logan and Lindsey Jennings, from Danville. They took the Village News along and are now hooked on cruising!

They returned every main component of their team and were looking to improve on the previous season’s 9-13 record.
