At the end of Mark Erickson’s second year of teaching PE at Falling Creek Elementary, he was awarded Teacher of the Year for the 2019-20 school year. BoS: County has 32 COVID-19-related deaths

Chesterfield County had 32 deaths related to the coronavirus as of May 27. County supervisors heard that and more information from Chesterfield’s health district director, Dr. Alexander Samuel, during their May 27 meeting. Samuel noted that the county’s positivity testing rate for COVID-19 was at 17.5 percent, which was down from the peak of about 28 percent in mid-April. Southbend holds Senior Parade for grads

The Southbend community held a Senior Parade to celebrate the students and their accomplishments. Seventeen seniors attended in their decorated vehicles and drove through the communities.  They represented Thomas Dale, Clover Hill, Monacan, and Benedictine high schools, with one or more home-schooled.

Police arrest suspect who shot at, wounded officer

Police have arrested a suspect who shot at and wounded a Chesterfield County Police officer May 27. At about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a reported shooting in the 5400 block of Remuda Drive. As some officers worked to locate the shooting victim, other responding officers began patrolling the area. Two officers observed a suspicious vehicle on Cogbill Road and initiated a traffic stop. Chesterfield announces $5M for “Back in Business” grant program

At the direction of the Board of Supervisors, Chesterfield County, in partnership with the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce, is launching “Back in Business” grants to support small businesses negatively affected by COVID-19. The $10,000 grants are designed to provide immediate relief to businesses to help them remain in business through the COVID-19 pandemic and prepare for reopening under the guidelines of Forward Virginia. The $5 million dollars, dedicated for the grant program, will come from the federal funding Chesterfield County received from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
